Summary

... A little more about me
Aloha, my name is Yvonne Mahelona and I am a traditional Kanaka 'Oiwi birth and grief worker. I offer doula support for folks in their postpartum period, those who experience miscarriage as well as abortion. I was raised by my Tutu, my great-grandmother, who played these roles in our community on the Westside of O'ahu. I am someone who has experienced 4 miscarriages as well as abortion and have re-created ceremonies for grieving taught to me by my Tutu in my upbringing. Through her teachings, that of my Papa Oli (chanting) Kumu Hawane Rios and training with Birthworkers of Color, Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings and an Abortion training by the National Lawyers Guild I've been able to support many folks on O'ahu and across the continent who've experienced loss through miscarriage or those who seek abortions. I also offer abortion education where I help educate my clients to prepare them for an abortion. Abortion and miscarriages are types of birth so I offer in-home services for families experiencing these as well as postpartum care after the birth of your child. These include general chores like laundry and house cleaning or even spending time with baby so you can malama, take care, of yourself and rest. For miscarriage and abortions I offer ceremony with parents to honor the loss in a way that can assist the parents/ family spiritually and emotionally. I am an abortion and miscarriage educator for community because while not everyone has the capacity to be a doula, we should all know what to expect and how to support folks through these experiences at minimum. Community care is how we survive capitalist patriarchy and I look forward to sharing my aloha and my 'ike with you and your 'ohana.

Free 1 hour consultation
$35/hour
