Island of Maui
Education, Support, and Advocacy for Birth and Wellness Choices Across Hawai'i
This year's annual Labor Day event is coming September 5, 2022 from 11am-3pm at Maui Nui Botanical Garden. We hope you can join us for a day of music, food, speakers, informational tables, and community. LEARN MORE about our key note speaker Nicolle Gonzales and the event here: https://www.pacificbirthcollective.org/LaborDay
This year’s theme is Healing & Reproductive Justice Through Indigenous Wisdom. The keynote speaker is Nicolle Gonzales CNM, BSN, RN, MSN, Indigenous Midwife and founder of the Changing Woman Initiative and Corn Woman Access Clinic in New Mexico. Nicolle's extensive contributions to traditional midwifery and collaborative midwifery care are known on national and international levels. The event will also feature entertainment from Hanohano and Queen Maile from Molokaʻi and their Aloha ʻĀina Hip Hop, community member sharing, Hawaiian cultural practitioners demonstrating skills and wisdom, and information booths.
This gathering is intended to inspire the collaborative efforts necessary to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in our community by collectively recognizing and embracing indigenous wisdom. This will serve as a starting point for revitalized advocacy and support for traditional midwifery, sovereign birthing choices, and reproductive justice. Working together, we can bring about the collective healing that is essential to the health of Hawai‘i’s people.
Birth sovereignty, transforming maternal and infant health, and indigenous healing practices in Hawaiʻi are essential to each of us.
We are looking forward to gathering with you.
